The first iPhone was introduced in 2007 by Steve Jobs at the Apple Corporation. Just one year prior in 2006, Steltronic had its first version of the VLC (Vision Lane Computer) made for bowling centers around the world.

With the exciting and patented truly 3-D animated graphics for nearly every type of score possible, the VLC was in a league of its own compared to the others. Fast forward into 2017, and Steltronic introduced a scaled down size of the VLC, and we call it Vision-NEX because it runs the Focus-NEX front desk software. While smaller in size, it packs more horsepower than its predecessor, and has the new solid state hard drives working up to 100X faster and cooler because it has no moving parts.

As we all know, if you have the original iPhone from Apple, you cannot run the newest version of their software, and the same is for Focus software. If you want to stay current with the newest version of Steltronic Focus-NEX software, the software upgrade is free, but you need to upgrade your lane computer hardware to be able to run the next generation of Focus-Nex software at the front desk along with the Vision-NEX software running at the lanes for the most brilliant and exciting interactive 3-D images and animations possible. Steltronic is just like the Apple iPhone, there is no charge for all of the bells and whistles that get released every year by Apple, but you need the correct hardware to run the new software.

One of the first bowling pin detection devices from Steltronic in 1995 was called "SCIBA". It works very well and you mechanically calibrate it with targets setup on the pin decks, then using the front desk software finalizing the calibration. 

Moving forward today, the new PinCam detection device calibrates itself after each set of pins is set on the pin deck. Along with self calibration, you also get an instant replay to see which pins were left standing, and saving these images up to 1000 pin reads, so the mechanic can find out why there was a mis-score going back many days.

Something new is on the horizon for Steltronic automatic scoring systems, the Video Matrix Extender (VME) is arriving soon.

The new and upcoming Video Matrix Extender (VME) has the ability to drive up to 4 HDMI flat screen monitors up to 300 feet away. Many bowling centers prefer to install all of the scoring equipment on the pinsetter curtain wall, and with the new VME from Steltronic, delivering the HDMI high definition animations and graphics to the monitors up near the ball return systems has been solved.

• Cell phone or email pictures for your bowling experience. When the bowler is UP TO BOWL, or they get a strike/spare/foul/gutter, the Vision system will display a picture of the player. This is a great feature for the corporate or kids birthday parties while bowling.
• Credit card receipts: The focus system will soon allow the bowling center to determine how many receipts are needed for credit card transactions. Sometimes the customer does not want a copy of the credit card receipt, and this will now be an option to print or skip it.
• Sales tax free transactions: If a military, school, or non profit organization is bowling in the center, the front desk will have the options to make the entire transaction sales tax free. 
• Discount the entire transaction will now be a separate button available to simply make an entire sale/transaction with a discount based on a percentage the cashier will enter at the time of the sale.
